Manufacturing today no longer faces the question of whether to digitize. The real question is: how to ensure that investments in technology, data, and process improvement deliver a measurable impact on your company’s bottom line?

Come to MSV – the International Industrial Fair 2026 to see how connecting production management, data analytics, and systematic quality management helps manufacturing companies uncover losses, boost performance, and produce more efficiently.

At the joint exhibition of PHARIS, SC&C Partner, and Applikates, we will show you how to connect key areas that directly impact production profitability:

Keep production under real-time control – gain precise data on manufacturing performance, downtime, capacity, schedules, and job progress with MES/APS PHARIS.

Make decisions based on data, not assumptions – leverage advanced process analysis and statistical methods to identify root causes of issues and opportunities for improvement.

Increase quality and reduce costs – systematically improve product and process quality, automate routine tasks, and utilize accurate data for continuous improvement thanks to the Qualituner solution.

We will show that digitization itself is not the ultimate goal. The goal is manufacturing that:

produces more with the same resources,

identifies and eliminates losses faster,

consistently delivers high-quality products,

and directly translates improvements into financial performance.

PHARIS has come a long way over the past few years. We have continued to develop our product, welcomed new customers, gained valuable experience, and have exciting plans for the future – many of them already underway. We want our brand to reflect where PHARIS is today, so we are gradually refreshing our visual identity. We are starting with our logo, which preserves the character of PHARIS while giving it a more modern and cleaner look.

The new PHARIS logo

The previous logo for comparison

What’s behind the new logo?

The first noticeable change is the color. We are replacing the previous lighter blue with a deep navy blue, giving PHARIS a more distinctive and confident appearance while better reflecting our position as an experienced technology partner for manufacturing companies.

The dominant element of the logo is the purple square above the letter “h”, which we call the digit. It primarily represents digitalization, which is at the heart of our industry. Its offset position also resembles a step or a move upward – a direct connection to our slogan, “Your next move”. It symbolizes digitalization as the next logical step on the journey towards more efficient manufacturing.

The digit’s position above the highest point of the logo can also subtly evoke the light at the top of a lighthouse. It is a small detail for those who associate the name PHARIS with a lighthouse – a reliable navigational point that helps you find the right direction even in an environment full of change.

How will the visual transition take place?

We are not planning a big overnight change. We will update our visual identity step by step:

A gradual transition: You will see the old and new logos side by side for a while. Until the new visual identity is rolled out everywhere, both versions will be in use.

The people, know-how and quality remain: We are only changing the look and feel. Our services, product and team you know will continue to work exactly as before, with no changes.

Let us know what you think of the new logo. We would love to hear your feedback!

Another Czech manufacturer joins our customer family. This time, we will be implementing MES PHARIS at PROFITAPE, a renowned manufacturer of technical adhesive tapes and die-cut products for various industrial sectors, including the automotive industry.

The project will include integrating MES PHARIS with the KARAT enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. As a result, data will flow automatically between both systems, giving production an up-to-date overview of what is actually happening on the shop floor—without unnecessary retyping or searching for information.

What benefits will the new system bring in practice?

we will focus on increasing production profitability

we will enable real-time digital production management, including alarm functionality

we will optimize label printing

we will connect machines and equip the production floor with modern terminals

we will streamline the transfer of production data to the KARAT ERP system

we will provide an accurate, real-time overview of work in progress

we will provide reliable production KPIs for the company’s strategic management

We are already working intensively on the project and look forward to sharing the first results. Thank you to PROFITAPE for their trust!

At PHARIS, we proudly follow the sporting journey and achievements of Paralympic cyclist Ivo Koblasa, whom we support as a partner. Ivo recently completed two exceptionally demanding race weekends, proving that he belongs among the absolute world elite, whether racing on the track or the road. He brings home fantastic medal finishes from both the Czech National Championships and the prestigious European Cup.

Two silver medals at the Czech championships straight from track training

The first grueling test was the joint Czech and Slovak National Championships held around Lovosic (July 11–12). Ivo arrived in Lovosice directly from specialized track training, yet on the challenging road course, he immediately proved capable of giving experienced road racers a run for their money. The cyclists faced a demanding, hilly time trial followed by a Sunday road circuit featuring a punishing 12% climb. In the merged MC 1, 2, 3 category, Ivo put on a hard-fought performance:

Road time trial: 2nd place (just 1 second behind the winner)

Road race: 2nd place

Triumph at the Record-Breaking European Cup in Púchov

Just a week later, Ivo competed in the European Road Cup in Púchov. The 29th edition of the event attracted a record-breaking field of competitors and the highest number of participating nations in its history—with riders on the starting line from 13 countries, including Denmark, Germany, Austria, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Ivo entered the competition with immense drive and peak form:

Saturday hilly road race: After a tough battle on the course, he claimed 1st place and the gold medal!

Sunday time trial: He confirmed his top-tier performance by adding a fantastic 2nd place.

We warmly congratulate Ivo and his entire team on these outstanding results and wish him lots of strength and fast legs for his upcoming races!

More about Ivo and his performances can be found on his website: www.ivokoblasa.cz.

When people in manufacturing hear the term MES, many still picture a screen displaying machine statuses, OEE dashboards, or downtime reports. However, that is far from the primary reason why manufacturing companies should invest in an MES.

Production managers do not necessarily need another dashboard. What they truly need is smoother production operations. They need to reduce downtime, ensure that people receive the right information at the right time, and resolve issues before they bring production to a halt.

This is precisely where the difference lies between a system that merely collects data and an MES that genuinely helps manage production. After all, the acronym itself says it all: Manufacturing EXECUTION System.

The biggest downtimes are not caused by machines

When companies analyze the causes of downtime, attention is often focused on equipment failures. In practice, however, a significant portion of production losses originates elsewhere:

The machine is waiting for a setup change.

The setup technician is unaware that the current production run is nearing completion.

Maintenance is informed about a problem too late.

Quality personnel are not called in time to approve production release.

Logistics has not prepared the required material.

The technology is ready, but coordination between people is missing.

These are not technical problems. They are production management problems. And this is exactly where modern MES systems create value.

Automating production management instead of relying on calls and manual coordination

In most manufacturing companies, an enormous number of processes are still handled manually. A supervisor calls a setup technician. The setup technician searches for a maintenance technician. An operator reports an issue to the shift manager. The production manager walks through the shop floor to determine the current status.

Every one of these steps consumes time. Every one of them creates opportunities for mistakes. A full-featured MES can effectively automate a large portion of this communication.

A typical production scenario

As a production batch approaches completion, the system automatically notifies the setup technician that the next production order must be prepared within the next ten minutes. The notification can be delivered via PDA, mobile application, SMS, pager, or another communication channel. If a machine failure occurs, the MES automatically creates a maintenance work request. If first-piece or periodic quality approval is required, the system automatically calls the quality inspector. If the request is not resolved within the specified timeframe, the system escalates the issue to the responsible supervisor.

Information reaches the right people without phone calls, emails, or unnecessary delays. The result is not only greater convenience. The result is faster response times and reduced downtime.

Production must react before problems occur

Many companies today are very good at analyzing yesterday’s problems. The question is: what value does it provide to know that a machine was down twelve hours ago? The real value comes from being able to react before production stops.

This is why modern MES systems work with real-time events and online production data. The system:

knows which production order is currently running,

knows when it will be completed,

knows which operation comes next,

knows who must be prepared,

automatically triggers the necessary processes and workflows.

Production management thus moves from a reactive approach to a preventive one.

Data only creates value when it leads to action

This does not mean reports are unimportant. On the contrary. Modern MES solutions allow companies to analyze:

Machine and workstation OEE,

Operator performance,

Downtime causes,

Production productivity,

Scrap rates in both units and monetary value,

Trends of key performance indicators over time.

However, it is essential to understand the true value of data and not stop at analysis alone. A report by itself will not improve production performance. A chart will not eliminate downtime. A dashboard will not reduce setup times. Data only has value when it drives specific actions. That is why MES should first and foremost be viewed as a production management tool and only secondarily as a reporting and analytics tool.

MES Is not software — It Is a production management philosophy

Companies that achieve the greatest benefits from MES implementation do not treat it as a one-time IT project. They use it as a platform for continuous improvement. Over time, they add new:

workflows,

automated processes,

management rules,

notifications,

escalation mechanisms,

user scenarios.

Simply put, it becomes a flexible toolbox. Companies configure as many processes as they need, exactly the way they want them, observe how they perform, continuously refine them, add new ones, adapt to changing production requirements, and prevent recurring mistakes.

Each improvement delivers additional time savings, further reductions in downtime, higher efficiency, improved quality, increased productivity, workforce optimization, and lower audit costs.

APS as part of automated production management

Automation does not begin on the shop floor. It starts with production planning and scheduling. Today’s production planners must manage an enormous number of constraints. Again, the challenge is not collecting data but effectively utilizing it. This is another example of how modern technologies can be applied intelligently.

Creating production schedules manually is becoming increasingly difficult. Integrating the right APS (Advanced Planning and Scheduling) solution into the manufacturing management system can generate an optimized production schedule within moments while simultaneously simulating the impact of changes—often far more effectively than the human brain can.

As a result, manufacturers gain much more than a better production plan. They gain the ability to respond rapidly to change without chaos or improvisation, while also reducing dependence on specific planners and their individual know-how.

Lessons from everyday practice

Every day, I see Czech manufacturing companies investing in and adopting the latest technologies. They digitalize processes surrounding ERP systems and are increasingly interested in AI. Yet many of them still manage production in essentially the same way they did thirty years ago. At best, some companies implement simple tools for data collection, basic KPI calculations (such as OEE), and labor reporting—systems that present themselves as MES solutions without delivering the full capabilities of a true MES.

At the same time, I must acknowledge that the situation is gradually changing.More and more companies are beginning to view MES as a standard tool for production management and continuous performance improvement. At that point, all that is required is the courage to pause, look around, learn how successful manufacturers operate, and ask whether there might be a better way.

Our recent projects confirm this trend, including those in which we replace MES solutions from other vendors with our proven, full-featured MES PHARIS platform. It is highly rewarding to observe the benefits that customers achieve through a modern production management system and to support them as a long-term partner in its continuous development.

Conclusion

Today, simply monitoring production is no longer enough. It is not enough to know what happened yesterday. It is not enough to collect data. Manufacturing companies need systems that help coordinate people, prevent problems, and automate routine decision-making.

That is why MES should not be viewed primarily as a data collection tool. A true MES collects data mainly to use it for automated, real-time production management. This is where its impact on manufacturing performance originates—and why it remains one of the fastest-return investments in modern industry.

In the second quarter of the 21st century, MES has become a clear standard for managing most manufacturing operations. It is not overly complex. Companies simply need to stop being afraid of it. MES is not a solution only for large enterprises. It is an essential step toward maintaining competitiveness. The best inspiration comes from successful manufacturers that can no longer imagine running production without an MES.

Do you know what is happening in your production at this very moment? Who is working on which order? Which machine is currently idle? Where exactly is the bottleneck? Most companies think they know. But they don’t.

Management via the rearview mirror

In production, decisions are still frequently made based on data that is no longer valid. An operator writes performance figures on paper. At the end of the shift, “it” gets transcribed into the system. The next morning, you have a report (more or less distorted). But what you are looking at is the past.

Meanwhile:

A machine stood idle for half an hour.

Workers were waiting for material.

An order fell behind schedule.

And no one reacted. Not because they didn’t want to—but because they didn’t know.

The Illusion of oversight

“But we have reports. We can see how we’re doing.”
Yes. But when?
In many companies, you only learn key information after the fact. At a meeting. Or once a problem escalates.
But that isn’t production management anymore. That is a post-mortem evaluation of what went right and what went wrong.

What It truly costs you

These losses aren’t visible at first glance. They don’t appear as a single line item in your accounting. But they are everywhere:

Downtime (unaddressed in real-time, waiting between operations, emergency incidents).

Poor quality (timely intervention can prevent significant losses).

Inefficiency (every small increase in efficiency equals money).

Misaligned Priorities.

Chaos on the shop floor.

A typical example from the field:
One company recorded downtime manually. Inaccurately. With a delay.
As a result, they didn’t actually know:

How much downtime they had.

Why it was happening.

Where to fix it.

It was only when they began collecting downtime data automatically in real-time using a MES (Manufacturing Execution System)—including downtime type detection—that they saw where the production was truly losing time and why.
Most importantly, they could finally react immediately.

Data no one trusts

Another problem: the data exists, but no one trusts it.
Operators record performance manually. Sometimes they “help” the numbers. Sometimes they log them retroactively. Reports are often generated manually.
The result? The reports look good. The reality, less so.
In one company, workers were even “hiding” completed work to report it the next day. This made their performance look more consistent than it actually was.
Managing production based on such data is an illusion.

The most expensive moment: when you finally see the truth

An interesting thing happens when you implement a MES and start collecting and evaluating data correctly.

Suddenly:

OEE drops (it is now correctly calculated based on accurate data).

Performance looks worse.

The numbers “don’t add up.”

This isn’t because production got worse. It’s because you are seeing it as it truly is for the first time.
This is the moment of truth. You either accept it and start managing production better, or you go back to the “pretty” numbers.

What real-time production management means

Managing production in real-time isn’t about having more reports. It’s about:

Seeing what is happening right now.

Knowing exactly where a problem is originating.

Reacting immediately (automated processes, workflows).

You don’t wait for the end of the shift or for the problem to show up in the final results. You solve things as they arise—before they impact the entire production flow. Every minute has a price, and every delay has an impact that you can never recover retroactively.

Real-time management means having simple workflows built on top of online data. Once specific conditions are met, the system automatically triggers an action (from notifications and calling maintenance to alarms or even stopping the machine).

It’s not magic; it’s just utilizing available technology. Yet, it represents a fundamental shift across the entire manufacturing process. In this context, a MES is a tool for monitoring production and automatically influencing it based on its current state.

For example:

Downtime isn’t evaluated retrospectively; it’s addressed now.

An order is nearing completion—start preparation for the next one in advance.

You are currently producing more scrap than expected—change it now.

OEE on a running job is suspiciously low—find out what’s happening.

The result?
Less chaos. Faster, automated decision-making. Higher efficiency.
And often, a surprisingly fast ROI—in some cases, within a matter of months.

A simple closing question

Knowing what happened yesterday is not enough. Do you know what is happening in your production right now?
Because if you don’t, you aren’t managing production. You are just reacting to it.

On Thursday, April 16, the 7th edition of the SME Digitalization Roadshow took place at CEITEC BUT in Brno. Among the speakers was PHARIS CEO Tomáš Hradský—who went straight to the point: Not having an MES in manufacturing today is not just a limitation. It’s a roadblock to further development. .

In his presentation, “No MES? Then Forget Lean, AI, and the Smart Factory,” the following points were highlighted:

why it doesn’t make sense to address advanced manufacturing management concepts without MES

the difference between basic and advanced MES—and why an ERP module is not enough

the most common misconceptions companies face when pursuing digitalization

In the afternoon panel discussion, he joined other experts to expand on a topic that ultimately determines outcomes: How to get the most out of digitally managed production:

data is not the goal, but a tool

the key lies in context and proper use within processes

real savings emerge when data is turned into decisions

In other words: it’s not enough to collect and visualize data. Production needs to be managed based on it—ideally in an automated way. .

We would like to thank the organizers for a perfectly prepared and inspiring event: National Centre for Industry 4.0, CzechInvest, CEITEC – Central European Institute of Technology, and RICAIP Testbed Brno.

If you’re figuring out how to move your production from “we see the data” to “we manage based on data,” we’d be happy to connect—perhaps over a no-obligation consultation focused on your specific situation.

We are pleased to announce that PHARIS is expanding its collaboration with ERP system providers by adding another renowned partner – ABRA Software. ABRA is one of the leading Czech providers of enterprise information systems. It develops modern ERP solutions for business management, process automation, and the support of smart, data-driven operations, currently used by tens of thousands of users.

ABRA has selected MES PHARIS as a recommended solution for its customers in the manufacturing sector. There is a natural synergy between the products of ABRA and PHARIS – the integration of ERP and MES ensures seamless data flow, accurate planning, higher efficiency, and complete real-time visibility into production.

It’s already been a year since we were blowing out two candles on the cake together and wondering how many actually belonged there. This March 2026, we celebrate our third anniversary as an independent company, PHARIS, s.r.o.

Although we have been operating as a company for “only” three years, our DNA goes much further back. If we trace our history to the first lines of code of our MES PHARIS product in 2001, we are already a quarter of a century old. And if we were to count the experience of our key colleagues, we would reach hundreds of years of combined expertise in the field of manufacturing digitalization.

Three years on our own path

The past three years have been a period of steady growth for PHARIS and a confirmation that becoming independent from our parent company, UNIS, a.s., was the right decision. We have successfully:

Strengthened our team with new talent while maintaining the continuity of our experienced experts.

Expanded the deployment of MES PHARIS to dozens of new customers in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Improved the quality of our services and become a trusted partner to our customers in efficient production management.

Continued developing the fourth generation of our system, which today forms the digital backbone of modern manufacturing plants.

So, how many candles this year?

While we hesitated last year, this time it’s clear. We’re placing three candles on the cake—representing our independence, drive, and a new era. Beneath them, however, symbolically burns a strong foundation built on a quarter-century of experience and innovation.

We would like to thank our customers for their trust and our team for making PHARIS not just a software product, but above all a community of people who enjoy pushing the boundaries of Industry 4.0 every day.

We wish our company, colleagues, and partners another year full of precision, stability, and successful implementations.
